Retrieved from http://www.ancientegypt.co.uk/menu.html The British Museum's web site offers a wealth of information on ancient Egypt. The site is divided into ten chapters relevant to Ancient Egypt. Each chapter [resents a home page and then it contains three sections: Story, Explore, and Challenge. The “Story” presents information about the particular chapter in narrative form. “Explore” presents information in a non-linear presentation where the student controls the order in which they access information . The student and/or the teacher would then make connections to studies in the classroom. The “Challenge” section allows students to practice skills related to Ancient Egypt and the chapter on the site they are currently studying.

You can make your own mummy, play with hieroglyphs, and take a quiz where you try to guess how objects were used in ancient Egypt. You can also read about Egyptian history, religion, mythology, social structure, daily life, and burial practices.

It includes games, puzzles, and many museum objects for viewing. This site is designed for both students and teachers.

Book Sources
Aliki. Mummies Made in Egypt. Harper Collins, 1979. Aliki describes the steps of mummification in order to prepare the body for the afterlife. Some of the illustrations in the book are based on artwork found in ancient Egyptian tombs. Aliki's style is excellent for elementary, middle, and high school students studying about ancient Egypt.
Giblin, James Cross. The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone. Harper Collins, 1990. This book narrates the 1799 discovery of the Rosetta Stone and how the writing on it was deciphered which enabled future translations of ancient writings.
Macaulay, David. Pyramid. Houghton, 1975. This book provides a description of how the Egyptians built their pyramids. It shows the process from start to finish including how the Egyptians chose the actual building site to placing the final stone in the pyramid when a body was entombed. The book is filled with Macaulay's own illustrations to help readers understand the process.
Perl, Lila. Mummies, Tombs, and Treasure: Secrets of Ancient Egypt. Clarion, 1987. This book discusses how the bodies of the ancient Egyptians were preserved after death through the mummification process. It also describes rituals ancient Egyptians practiced in order to protect the dead person’s spirit. The book includes photographs and drawings of mummies, as well as tomb paintings, and famous Egyptian architectural sites
Roehrig, Catharine. Fun with Hieroglyphs Kit. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Viking, 1990. Students will love this kit which includes a set of rubber stamps, an illustrated guidebook, and a hieroglyph alphabet chart that will help you create and decode your own secret messages. This kit is great to have in a classroom to use in an activity center while studying about Egypt.
Wilcox, Charlotte. Mummies and Their Mysteries. Carolrhoda, 1993. The Egyptian mummification process, as well as in other parts of the world, is explained with the help of text and color photographs and illustrations.
